We strengthen health and learning opportunities for individuals and communities through connection with horses.

We are currently offering Health and Learning Programs and Host Farm Collaborations

We believe in creating safe and inclusive spaces for both humans and horses to lead with kindness and build strong relationships through trust and openness.

Our Programs

Health & Learning Programs

These group sessions are designed to give opportunity for the participants to explore personal growth skills such as: communication, compassion, teamwork, leadership and so much more. The ground work stations have intended objectives for participants and horses to walk together.  We offer inclusive, multi-level sessions, workshops and weekly programs.

Host Farm Partnerships

The field of horse assisted services is evolving and we seek to build relationships with other farms who share our philosophy and wish to explore opportunities for mentorship, collaboration or granting possibilities. If you are a farm owner or operator who is enthusiastic about learning and healing with horses we encourage you to connect with us.

Our focus is working with horses together in stride on the ground. Please note, these are not riding programs. All programs are supported by highly trained and insured facilitators, teachers, coaches or licensed health professionals.

“Horses don’t stand alone and they don’t allow you to stand alone.”

Our programs foster an environment of healing and learning in partnership with horses as teachers, mentors and healers. To learn more about how you or your organization may access our programming please contact us.

  • "First, I was really timid. What is different about myself is that I’m overall more confident now. My biggest learning has been sharing and confidence. I have learned to open up and share more with the group."

    Word: Confidence

  • "My favourite part has been the fact that we're outside, normally I'm inside by myself and isolated. I enjoy the outdoor arena more, the indoor sometimes makes me dizzy. Teamwork and communication and patience transferred into my outside life."

    Word: Teamwork

  • "I realized that I can still learn new things and it's given me confidence to try new things. I notice the willingness to try something new had transferred to the outside world."

    Word: Love

  • "I take the learning from every Monday and spend the rest of the week reflecting on that learning. I'm more aware of everyone's behaviour and respond more effectively."

    Word: Joy

  • "My favourite part has been meeting Feather and the wonderful big Finn who's always willing to give it a shot. Being comfortable with talking more openly with other people is a big learning. It's important for me to be involved with people and not just horses."

    Word: Safety

After years of being witness to the extraordinary benefits of the human and horse connection, we felt compelled to create a platform that brought these experiences to more communities.

Our small organization started from a place of passion that has grown to a heart-centered committed leadership team that is focused on delivering and developing gold standard accessible offerings fuelled by research and feedback from our participants. We strive to  create a world in which health and learning opportunities are celebrated and available to everyone.

About the Humans

Tammera Merkens

Jessica Lake

The horses are the teachers and mentors. They are a wonderful collection of horses with very specific jobs and amazing personalities. Some have rescue stories and others have been intentionally chosen to share with you. All have lessons within them that they are kind enough to share with all of us.

About the Horses

Our Commitment

TIS is committed to walking together as we focus on building relationships with our surrounding nations and intentionally providing inclusive programs for all cultures and backgrounds.

Research

We are dedicated to participating in research that feeds our sector development, promotes understanding of our industry and increases accessibility. Our focus is on creating inclusive and beneficial horse health and learning programs for individuals living with brain injury.

Second Act

As advocates for horses, our Cobble Hill location dedicates space to creating opportunities for horses to have a continued or renewed purpose and become valuable mentors, healers, teachers and partners in our field.
